Back in late 2014, a team of “Veteran Unix Admins” announced their plans to release a systemd-free fork of Debian GNU+Linux; it was named Devuan. In mid-2017, the first Devuan 1.0 release arrived. Following the same, Devuan 2.0 has just been shipped by the developers as a stable release to provide an alternative to systemd and its components. “The expert install mode now offers a choice of either SysVinit or OpenRC as init system,” Devuan GNU+Linux 2.0 release notes states.
